East Alton's Piar adds STL Metropolitan title to Illinois state crown

Piar will begin her collegiate career in August when she reports for practice at Cal State-Northridge, but a busy June will be followed by a busy July for Piar. Along with Lewis and Johnson, Piar played close to home Tuesday in the Junior PGA Championship qualifier at Spencer T. Olin, with a second round on Wednesday. -- Alton Telegraph

B’nai Torah Congregation Welcomes Rabbi Evan Susman to Energize Young Adult and Family Programs

Rabbi Susman graduated from Cal State University Northridge with a B.A. in Modern Jewish Studies and a minor in Pan African Studies. During his time at university, he was very active in the Jewish community on campus, taught religious school, and worked with B’nai Mitzvah students at Temple Beth Shir Shalom in Santa Monica, CA. After graduating, he served as the Hazzan of Beth El The Beaches Synagogue in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, as well as a music teacher at the Martin J. Gottlieb Day School in Jacksonville, FL. Rabbi Susman is originally from Miami Beach and is passionate about Jewish music, education, and enriching the lives of our families and youth. He enjoys traveling, writing music, golfing, and cooking – especially for Shabbat. Rabbi Susman joins the B’nai Torah community along with his fiancé, Emily Davine. -- EIN News

Summer Movie Fest Returns to CSUN

It’s time to dig out your lawn chairs and picnic blankets and get ready to enjoy the return of a summertime tradition at CSUN: The annual outdoor Summer Movie Fest is back. The Associated Students production, now in its ninth year, will feature family favorites like “Encanto” and “Turning Red.” There will also be critically acclaimed recent releases such as “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” -- SCV News

Cindy Chang promoted to deputy editor, Maria L. La Ganga to city editor for the California section

La Ganga joined The Times in 1981 as an academic intern, splitting her time between the former Metro section and National Dragster, the official publication of the National Hot Rod Assn. She has served as Seattle bureau chief, San Francisco bureau chief, edited in the Business section and pitched in on six presidential elections, five for The Times and one for the Guardian. Most recently, she served as an assistant editor in Metro. La Ganga shared in two Pulitzer Prizes: for Times coverage of the 1992 Los Angeles riots and the 1994 earthquake. She is a graduate of Cal State Northridge, where she studied English literature and journalism. -- Los Angeles Times

Assemblywoman Petrie-Norris announces hiring of Michael Tou as district director

As a civically engaged resident of Orange County, Tou sits on the Equity in OC Taskforce, Costa Mesa Sanitary District Citizens Advisory Committee and the City of Costa Mesa Housing and Public Service Grants Committee.
