Tom O’Day featured artist for the month of March

O’Day has been a professor at SFCC since 1998 and won the Exceptional Faculty Award in 2005. He has exhibited his art since 1979. The artist graduated from Fullerton College in 1974, earned his Bachelor’s at Cal State-Long Beach in 1980 and earned his Master’s in 1983 at Cal State-Northridge. -- The Independent - WA

Police learn to better understand people with developmental disabilities

Emily Iland, at the time a stay-at-home mom, decided to launch a career as an autism advocate and researcher. She is now an adjunct professor in the Department of Special Education at California State University, Northridge, and she has developed, with the help of her son, developmental and intellectual disability training for law enforcement agencies nationwide, including the Los Angeles Police Department. -- San Antonio Express-News

The current political climate in the United States has sparked fears of new anti-immigration laws and a potential culture war, prompting scholarly discussions about the necessity of ethnic studies and cultural awareness. A landmark of these discussions is the two-volume anthology “White” Washing American Education: The New Culture Wars in Ethnic Studies — a collaboration from California State University, Northridge ethnic studies professors. -- SCV News

In the archive of a revolutionary

There is rich history hidden within the walls of California State University Northridge’s Oviatt library. Rows and rows of bookcases line the walls containing not books, but boxes. This is the location of one of the biggest archives of immigration stories and material out of all CSU campuses. Among the mass of documents lies the files of the late Frank Del Olmo, a former CSUN student, longtime journalist and champion for immigrant rights. -- Medium
