Taking it low and slow with a lowrider car show

Today, we’re going to chill and take a little trip in a lowrider to Cal State Northridge, which will be hosting its first car show dedicated to these custom-made automobiles. The show is a part of the nearly year-long exhibit The Politics of Low & Slow, which is all about the politics of Chicano lowrider culture and history. -- LAist

Cathy Kalmenson on Voice Acting, Finding Talent and the State of AI

While I had the pleasure of lecturing to acting students at Cal State Northridge, I conducted an interactive exercise in which we passed around a cordless microphone to each person in the auditorium. They each gave their name and shared 3 natural personality characteristics describing themselves. This all happened in a matter of seconds for each person. There was one young man who came across naturally as the type we were auditioning that very same afternoon. Long story short, I invited this acting student to audition, and not only did he win the job, it grew into four national radio spots and it became his access via Taft-Hartley to join SAG-AFTRA! It launched his voice acting career. -- Variety

Romelle Mansel’s journey to HBCU Jackson State, Mo Williams

It's not everyday that college basketball players get to play for a former NBA player. But that was the situation Romelle Mansel found himself in when he transferred to HBCU Jackson State last season. Mo Williams had just accepted the head coaching job for the Tigers at the beginning of the 2022-23 season, Mansel's first in Jackson. He already had familiarity with Williams when he was an assistant coach at Cal State Northridge and recruited him in high school at St. Bernard's in the Los Angeles area. It was that familiarity that made it easier for him to transfer to Jackson State. -- Clutch Points
