Recipients Of The 2022/23 City Of Los Angeles Individual Master Artist Project Announced

Daniel Corral Daniel Corral is a Filipino/American born composer/performer born and raised in Eagle River, Alaska. Mr. Corral came to Los Angeles in 2005 as a percussionist/ composer. In Los Angeles, his unique voice finds outlet in accordion orchestras, multimedia microtonal electronics, puppet operas, handmade music boxes, site-specific sound installations, chamber music, and various collaborations. Corral's music has been commissioned and presented by venues such as the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Sundance Film Festival, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Joe's Pub, REDCAT, Iceland University of the Arts, Mengi, Harpa, MATA, HERE Arts Center, Miami Light Project, Operadagen Rotterdam, Wayward Music, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Synchromy, Hammer Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Göteborg Art Sound Festival, USC Thornton School of Music, Center for New Music, CSUN College of Arts, Pianospheres, Automata Los Angeles, Machine Project, SASSAS, the wulf., Pasadena All Saints Choir, Santa Monica GLOW Festival, CalArts, UCSD School of Music, Carlsbad Music Festival, and the Marin Headlands Center for the Arts. Roth and Sánchez to Perform for Glendale Noon Concerts

Nancy Roth, violinist (and violist), is currently the concertmaster of the Culver City Symphony and Marina del Rey Summer Symphony. She is also concertmaster of the Chamber Orchestra of the South Bay and a member of the Pasadena Symphony. She is a former member of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, was co-principal violist of the Graz Philharmonic in Austria, and served many years as concertmaster of the San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra and the Carson-Dominguez Hills Symphony. Roth has been a featured soloist with numerous Southern California orchestras including the Culver City Symphony, Carson Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of the South Bay, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and Southland Symphony Orchestra. She has given recitals and radio broadcasts in the United States, Austria and Mexico, and is currently a member of the new music group “TEMPO” based at California State University Northridge. Roth is a member of the String Family Players (quintet), which performs educational programs for the Music Center On Tour, and she has been on the faculty of the Max Aronoff Viola Institute Summer Music Festival. She has played baroque violin and viola with James Tyler in the London Early Music Group and Los Angeles Musica Viva. Nancy holds a Bachelor of Music from CSUN, a Master of Music from the Juilliard School and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Southern California. -- Crescenta Valley Weekly

Things to do in the San Fernando Valley, LA area, Nov. 24-Dec. 1

Powwow at California State University, Northridge: The American Indian Studies Program and CSUN’s American Indian Students Association present the event, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Nov. 26. The powwow begins with a gourd ceremony and a ceremonial dance, followed by a “grand entry,” at 12:30 p.m.,with a procession of dancers, blessings, greetings and songs. The event includes children’s activities, specialty food for purchase, arts and crafts vendors and educational information from the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians in the San Fernando Valley area. Corporate Citizenship & Giving Guide 2022 – Addressing Affordable Housing, Homelessness, Small Business and Financial Health

With financial health being a key factor in opening pathways to economic development, Wells Fargo continues its work with California State University, Northridge (CSUN), the largest Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Clinic in the nation. Wells Fargo provided a multi-year grant in 2022 which was matched dollar-for-dollar by the CSUN foundation that will allow the university to launch an innovative hybrid in-person and virtual platform to scale up cost-free tax preparation services, growing capacity of the Clinic to serve even more low-income taxpayers in Los Angeles County generating more than $19 million in tax refunds and $7.5 million in tax credits, while saving the taxpayers over $3.3 million in tax preparation fees. Taxpayers also received free one-on-one financial coaching services from their certified student financial coaches. Taxpayers are able to develop a customized budget, develop a strategy to pay down debt or save for a new house, college or retirement during these financial coaching sessions. -- San Fernando Valley Business Journal

Fernandeño Tataviam Tribe to Open Annual CSUN Powwow

It’s a tradition that dates back to the 1970s at California State University, Northridge — one that was suspended for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Top 100 Accountant 2022 – Lewis Sharpstone

Sharpstone has also been active in the community, serving on nonprofit boards, and is currently serving on the board of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, whose major program is Stand Up to Cancer. He also is an adjunct professor at California State University, Long Beach as he is a strong supporter of building the pipeline for the profession. AGBU Hye Geen International Conference On Women Journalists At The Forefront Of Empowerment

In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Vahram Shemmassian, director of CSUN Armenian Studies announced that between 3.000-4,000 students of Armenian origin attend Northridge University and a “tangible number of non-Armenians enroll in Armenian classes each semester.” Considering the changing role of Armenian women and their community involvement, the University has introduced a new course about the evolution of Armenian women’s role throughout history. -- Massi Post
