OPERA America Names CSUN Finalist for Digital Excellence Award

OPERA America named California State University, Northridge a 2022 finalist for Digital Excellence in Opera. CSUN’s production of Giacomo Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi,” an animated opera that was performed remotely. Opera America is a New York-based service organization that promotes the creation, presentation and enjoyment of opera in the United States. -- SCV News

As L.A. County’s mental health workers burn out, some weigh options

Dr. Erika D. Beck President California State University, Northridge Dr. Erika D. Beck became president of California State University, Northridge in January 2021. Prior to her appointment, she had served as president of California State University Channel Islands since 2016, and as provost and executive vice president at Nevada State College. As an advocate for the power of higher education to improve lives, transform the community, and promote social mobility, Beck works to ensure the academic success of students so that they can become leaders in today’s rapidly changing economy and society. Michelle Richardson Bailey Elected President of Pasadena Unified School Board

Dr. Yarma Velázquez was sworn in as a newly-elected Board member representing District 7. Dr. Velázquez is originally from Puerto Rico and comes from a family of educators. She holds a Ph.D. from Florida State University, an M.A. from Michigan State University, and a B.A. from the University of Puerto Rico in Communication. She works as a full professor of Communication in the Department of Chicana/o Studies at California State University Northridge. Dr. Velázquez and her family live in Pasadena. She has two children in PUSD schools and is enthusiastic about issues of equity and justice in education. Dr. Velazquez is a Girl Scout co-leader and a member of the National Women’s Political Caucus of Greater Pasadena. -- Colorado Blvd.
