CSUN Urban Planning Project Takes on Human Trafficking in Southern California

Geography is often seen as something taught in a classroom or used by a street planner. California State University, Northridge urban planning professor Henrik Minassians is creating maps for a different use — to help end human trafficking on the streets of South Los Angeles, San Fernando and Pomona. -- AmericanTowns.com

Serj Tankian Goes Symphonic — Then It's Back to System of a Down

Now, on a recent early-autumn afternoon in Los Angeles, Tankian — as politically passionate as ever — is explaining the symbolism in his Orca Symphony No. 1, which he will present on Nov. 10 and 12 at Valley Performing Arts Center, performed by the CSUN Symphony Orchestra. The symphony is a long way from the terse, manic snap of System of a Down albums like Toxicity or Mezmerize, and that’s where Tankian wants to be — for the moment, at least. -- LA Weekly

Khan’s acclaimed troupe is probably best known for its appearance at the 2012 London Olympic Games. This production, entitled “Chotto Desh,” uses interactive animation and innovative choreography to tell its mythical tale of one young man’s memories and dreams. $38-$58. -- LA Parent

System of a Down's Serj Tankian goes classical with symphonic concerts in Northridge

Tankian, who lives in nearby Calabasas and is a Cal State Northridge alum, feels confident about this U.S. appearance because, unlike in Atlanta, he’ll have plenty of rehearsal time with the orchestra before the shows. He also has honed this material by performing more than two dozen times in Europe, including concerts with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and the Bruckner Orchestra Linz of Austria. -- Los Angeles Times
