PEPPERDINE ADDS SETTER TRANSFER FROM MISSISSIPPI STATE

Volleyball runs in the family as not only was her mother her coach but was a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team that won bronze medals in 1988 and 1992. She has uncles Eric and Gary who were both members of the U.S. Men’s National Team as well. Gary did coach for the U.S. Men’s National team for various years of his life but is currently a member of the coaching staff for the USC men’s volleyball. Other relatives include cousins Andrew who recently graduated from Long Beach State and went to the back-to-back NCAA Men’s Volleyball Semifinals, Katie who plays libero for CSUN, and Malia who will play at USC this fall. -- Volley Mob

LATE POWER SURGE NOT ENOUGH FOR PIPPINS IN LOSS

The Bells (20-16, 4-5) got started fast off Pippins' right-hander, Kade Woods (Spokane Falls), as they got a two-run home run from Chase Illig (West Virginia), their representative for the home run derby, to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. In the second, they pushed across three more runs on four hits before getting another two-run home run, this time off the bat of Kody Mathews (Marshall) to knock Woods out of the game after just 2 1/3 innings of work. Kyle Nicol (Cal State Northridge) then came on in relief and allowed a few more runs before finally getting out of the frame with the Pippins trailing 9-0.
