18. Five Pioneer High School athletes signed their letters of intent to five different colleges. A signing day celebration was held in the Pioneer cafeteria in front of former coaches, family and friends. Patriots swimmer Connor Danies signed with the University of South Carolina. Maddee Whitehair signed on to play softball at Westcliff University, while teammate and catcher Tatum Wentworth will be playing at California State University Northridge. Soccer player Jasmine Gray signed on to play at the University of Northern Oregon while Alexa Madueno signed on to play goalkeeper for San Diego State University. The five student athletes are the most to sign a letter of intent during Joshua Holloway’s time as athletic director. --Daily Democrat
Prep basketball roundup: Riordan improves to 9-1
Perhaps the most impressive performance came from sophomore center Mor Seck, whose 10 offensive rebounds were more boards than any player had overall between the two teams. His 17 total boards were more than double anyone else as Riordan held a 53-31 advantage on the glass, even with Modesto Christian (3-4) rolling out a lineup that included a pair of 6-foot-8 international players in the post. Chinese junior Chris Fan was held to just four points and Georgian senior Alex Merkviladze, a Cal State Northridge commit, scored just six. --San Francisco Examiner
