IDA Teach Out: Black Women's Wellness

Debra Wilson is an award-winning director and producer of scripted and non-scripted projects. In 2020 her documentary short film The Lucky Ones streamed in several festivals and won the Stop Stigma Award at the Canberra Mental Health Film Festival. Debra has also directed numerous corporate, marketing, and branding projects. As a location manager, she has worked on such films and series as 13 Reasons Why, Sense8, Blindspotting, The Master, and Fruitvale Station. Debra is an SF FilmHouse Resident and BAVC MediaMaker Fellow alum. She is a member of Brown Girls Doc Mafia and Women of Color Unite. She earned a B.A. in Television/Film Production at Cal-State University, Northridge. Debra is currently in development on several projects. -- International Documentary Association

Kansas City has a new professional basketball team.

“Really, in America, there’s not really been options for women’s basketball. And so the fact that someone was able to see some of that talent that was here, and have the resources to bring a team here, we had no choice but to start it up,” said Calloway, who graduated from Lee’s Summit West High School and played Division 1 basketball at Texas State University and California State University Northridge. “There are so many people just waiting for that opportunity.” -- Kansas City Star

Cutters Studios Continues Growth With Addition of Editor Devon Bradbury

Originally from Southern California and deeply focused on editing since the age of 15, Bradbury is a Cinema and Television Arts graduate from Cal State University Northridge. Having joined Whitehouse Post as a runner back in 2013, she rose to the editor position in 2020. Gardena Serra’s Rodrick Pleasant clocks wind-aided 10.09 seconds for 100 meters

One of those distance runners making progress is junior Payton Godsey of Oaks Christian. She’s being recruited by UCLA and Oregon, among others. She won the Division 4 1,600 in 4:55.56. She was a state cross-country champion in the fall and her father, Brian, is a former Woodland Hills Taft track coach. Her mother Andrea ran at Cal State Northridge. “My parents are my biggest supporters,” she said. -- Los Angeles Times
