Opinion: Thirty years after the Northridge earthquake, I still think about a hero I met that day

I woke up on the morning of the 17th in a hotel outside of Reno. I was with a group of fellow Cal State Northridge students on a ski trip to Lake Tahoe. My friend Dave was pounding on my door. “Turn on the TV,” he said and then he was in my room, turning on the TV himself. It was 6:30 in the morning. On the screen we saw an aerial view of destroyed buildings, cratered streets, a bifurcated highway and then CSUN’s 2-year-old C-lot parking structure, which was bent hideously, like a broken leg. Many of the people on the ski trip had parked their cars in that structure. They’d never get them back. -- Los Angeles Times

He stayed in the CFL. -- The Athletic

GORDON GOODWIN

Gordon Goodwin was born in Wichita, Kansas, and Goodwin’s parents moved to Southern California when Goodwin was four. After completing his formal music education at Cal State University-Northridge, Gordon began working as a live performer at Disneyland and after a few years, he was commissioned to work on a musical that featured past and present Mouseketeers (including Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera). That exposure led to studio work with the likes of Quincy Jones, Mel Tormé, Ray Charles and legendary vocalist Johnny Mathis. -- 360 Magazine
