An Example of a Receptive Conceptual Task in the VISUAL MODALITY:

This is an example of a RECEPTIVE CONCEPTUAL task in the Visual Modality. Please note that the instructions must be given prior to testing the child or adult. This is done through pantomime and/or by simple modeling. This is necessary, of course, because we do not know before we test what the child's ability is to understand langauge.

There are two examples. One is very easy, and the other is very hard. For both, the task is the same. (Please note that these examples are actual tasks used in the Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Ability (ITPA).

The first task is to have the person look at a Picture.

The second task is have the person point to the object in the picture when he/she sees it again among a new set of pictures.
