An Example of Expressive Aphasia Speech Originating from the Uneffected Right (Non Langauge ) Cerebral Hemsiphere
This is an example of an adult with Expressive Aphasia producing speech from the right side of the brain. Because of the damage to the left cerebral hemisphere (the language center) the only speech he is capable of is from the verbage stored in the right cerebral hemisphere. This includes among other things, familiar songs, speech "formulas" (like the word "No,") and degraded expressions (like "I wonder,"). Counting from 1 to 10, at this stage in his life, is nothing but a "song" committed to the right cerebral hemisphere. Notice that to reach an individual number, such as 10, he must go through the whole "song."
(Please note, that the reason our examples are from adults and not from children is because it is difficult sometimes, because of the many varialbes associated with growth, to know how a child should sound. But we all know how an adult should sound. Hence the impact of the disabled process on adult speech is crystal clear.)
