An Example of Spastic Dysarthric Speech

This is an example of an adult with a Spastic Dysarthria speaking disorder. Whereas Cerebral Palsy is a children's pathology, this particular problem occurs later in life in some adults, and is called Huntington's Chorea. Notice how the agonist and antagonist muscles both contract at the same and/or at untimed intervals causing speech that is labored, jerky and uncontrolled. His general body movements involuntarily follow a similar patter as he is talking

I am sorry for the rather poor quality of this recording but listen carefully and you will hear how difficult it is for him to speak.

(Please note, that the reason our examples are from adults and not from children is because it is difficult sometimes, because of the many varialbes associated with growth, to know how a child should sound. But we all know how an adult should sound. Hence the impact of the disabled process on adult speech is crystal clear.)
