Rachel Friedman NarrRachel arrived at CSUN in Fall 2003. She received her Ph.D. in Special Education/Deaf Education in 1999 from the University of Arizona. Rachel provides a unique perspective to the department with a background in Speech-Language Pathology and Special Education.

Research interests include understanding the use of Visual Phonics with Deaf students who use ASL and general reading acquisition in young Deaf children.

Rachel has worked at The School for the Deaf in New York City (JHS 47) and Phoenix Day School for the Deaf. She also worked in the public schools in Columbus, OH. She has taught at The Ohio State University and Texas Women's University, University of Arizona, and Arizona State University. Rachel was a Program Specialist in San Luis Obispo, CA before starting her faculty appointment at CSUN.
