Economic Geography - Home
Welcome to Dr. Graves' Economic Geography Home Page
This is a very cool class. Students have enjoyed this course in the past and several graduates have emailed or called to let me know how helpful the course was for them once they got a job. We'll focus on applied economic geography, mostly marketing geography and urban development issues. We'll also do some classic, "old school" economic geography exercises and readings, so you'll understand the background of the newer ideas.
The course will have a lecture component on some days and a lab component on other days in which we'll go to the Geographic Information Systems Lab and do some 'hands on' economic geography.
The official course description is below, but as always, I'm open to modifying the class a bit to suit the needs of students.
340. Economic Geography (3) (Normally offered every semester) Prerequisite: A lower division course in Geography or Econ. 160 or 300. Principles governing spatial organization of society. Theoretical and empirical approaches to location of urban and rural settlement and economic activities. Spatial structures, their interrelationship, and changes in organization.
Check the links on the navigation bar on the left for all the other information you'll need for this course.
