ENG 155 E-journal requirements

Six responses of a minimum of 75 words each

to any editorial or commentary on the Op-Ed page of the L. A. Times http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/ , sent via email to the L. A. Times letters@latimes.com and the class listserv: marca155eight-c@csun.edu . Entries must be completed by due date/time (check your syllabus) to receive credit and must contain the title, author, and publication date of the article to which you are responding. In addition, your submission must contain your name, address, and phone number (as per the L. A. Times rules) in order to be considered for publication.

In order to complete the E-journal entry, simply do the following:

  1. Access http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/,or obtain a hard copy of the newspaper (available in the Oviatt Library). To access online LA Times asks you to create a log on profile. Just fill in the information asked of you. It is free and is only so they can keep track of how many people log on to which edition. They will email you your log on id and password for you to complete a final step in the log on procedure. Keep this information. Your log on and password is what you will use each time you access the newspaper online for this assignment.
  2. Find an Op-Ed editorial or Commentary (NOT a letter to the editor), that is no older than 1 week, that captures your interest
  3. Formulate a response to the editorial/commentary of no less than 75 words; use the letters to the editor as a guide (No one-liners! I want you to write thoughtful, complete responses.)
  4. Remember to include the title, author, and publication date of the editorial/commentary to which you are responding
  5. Also include your name, address, and phone number at the end of your response
  6. Email your response to letters@latimes.com AND Cc the Marca155two-c@csun.edu listserv; put "letter to the editor" in the email subject line.
  7. Check your syllabus regularly for E-journal due dates; no late entries will receive credit, but you can (and should) submit them earlier than the date on the syllabus
  8. Hope that your submission gets published! There's a very good chance that one (or more) of you will have your response published, especially if you mention that you're a college student.
