Separation of Duty

• A person with authority to perform multiple activities may be able to abuse the intended security.

  • If you can issue goods, receive goods and also write checks then you can probably steal stuff.

• Separation of Duty limits the authority to perform actions and distributes the duties required to carry out a complicated task to separate individuals. Having limited abilities prevents abuse but also creates dependencies.
