Nolumus ignorare prudentiam vestram, quod ad destruendas hereses, noviter ab Hildebrando inventas et antiquas sub nomine pietatis impie ab ipso renovatas, et ad defensionem fidei catholicae et ad exterminandam impietatem eorum, qui noviter ipsam fidem catholicam, quantum in ipsis fuit, scindere non timuerunt, Deo auctore Nonis Augusti [August 5, 1098] apud Sanctum Blasium convenimus, VIII. Idus [August 6] apud Sanctum Celsum, VII. Idus [August 7] apud Sanctam Mariam in aecclesia quae vocatur Rotunda consedimus. Ipsas hereses dampnatas sicut maiores nostri et nos dampnavimus, omnes sectatores, communicatores et complices semel dampnate pravitatis pari sorte censemus, ne, si vel paululum taceamus, consentire videamur. Eos vero, qui auctoribus errorum communicant, data securitate libere veniendi et abeundi, vocamus et, ut per maiores suos, domnum Raynerium et domnum Iohannem Burgundionem, causam suam agant, admonemus. Securitatem integram, in quantum possunum, usque ad festum omnium sanctorum [November 1, 1098] proponimus, etiam, cum in causa sua defecerint, neminem circumvenientes, nullius sanguinem, sed omnium vitam et honorem sitientes, nec seditiones in populo commoventes; de causa enim sua diffidere videtur, quisquis auctor est seditionibus. Pacem veram, dliectionem sinceram proponimus omnibus pacem et veritatem et unitatem catholicae aecclesiae amplectentibus, ut simus filii Patris nostri, qui in coelis est. Qui enim ex patre diabolo sunt, opera patris sui faciunt; conspirationibus, seditionibus, cuius filii sunt, manifeste ostendunt. Nos vero illius discipuli esse desideramus, cuius doctrina etiam inimicus sane est diligendus. Orent pro nobis aecclesiae filii, ut currat sermo Domini.

Adebertus episcopus Sanctae Ruphinae Silvae Candidae was Cardinal Albertus, known to be a Wibertine from a subscription of November 4, 1084 [Kehr, Italia Pontificia I, p. 76 no. 16]; he was still a Wibertine in February, 1102, after which he submitted to Paschal II [Hüls, Kardinäle, Klerus und Kirche 136-137].

Iohannes episcopus Ostiensis, known to be a Wibertine from a subscription of November 4, 1084 [Kehr, Italia Pontificia I, p. 76 no. 16] [Hüls, Kardinäle, Klerus und Kirche p. 103]. The legitimate Bishop of Ostia was Cardinal Odo, who died in Rome on July 29, 1099 [Hüls, Kardinäle, Klerus und Kirche p. 102].

Hugo episcopus Prenestinus was the notorious Cardinal Hugo Candidus, formerly a legitimate Cardinal of S. Clemente [Hüls, Kardinäle, Klerus und Kirche 158-160].

Albertus episcopus Nephesinus is known only from his participation in this Wibertine synod in Rome in 1098 [Hüls, Kardinäle, Klerus und Kirche 99].

Beno cardinalis presbiter, had been the legitimate Cardinal Priest of S. Martino e Silvestro from the time of Gregory VII. In 1184 he withdrew from the allegience of Gregory VII [Hüls, Kardinäle, Klerus und Kirche 191].

Guido cardinalis presbiter was the Wibertine cardinal of S. Balbina, known only from this document and another subscription of October 18, 1099 (Kehr Italia Pontificia I, p. 61 n. 2. [Hüls, Kardinäle, Klerus und Kirche p. 153].

Octavianus cardinalis presbiter designatus was the Wibertine cardinal of S. Susanna, known only from this document and another subscription of October 18, 1099 (Kehr Italia Pontificia I, p. 61 n. 2. [Hüls, Kardinäle, Klerus und Kirche pp. 209-210].

 

 

Domnus Raynerius was Cardinal Rainerius da Bieda, legitimate Cardinal of S. Clemente, who was elected Pope Paschal II in 1099 [Hüls, Kardinäle, Klerus und Kirche 160-161].

Domnus Iohannes Burgundionem was the legitimate Cardinal Iohannes of S. Anastasia [Hüls, Kardinäle, Klerus und Kirche 146-147].
