Folk Theories of Success
An
investigation of 1) the degree to which adolescents endorse a folk
theory of success and 2) how perceptions of occupational prestige
are related to anticipated income (as opposed to required
education).
Unpackaging
Oppositional Identity: A Quantitative Examination
An
examination of the theoretical constructs hypothesized as
contributing to minority students’ oppositional attitudes regarding
academic effort and achievement and the construction of a measure of
oppositional identity.
Best Food Forward
A theory based
curriculum to increase academic motivation and reduce antisocial
behavior. Collaborating with Cynthia Hudley (UCSB)
and Sandra Graham (UCLA)
An Examination of
the Achievement Values of Low SES Ethnic Minority Students
An examination of differences in achievement values endorsed
by African-American and Latino elementary and middle school
students. Specifically, we examine whether the characteristics
valued in peers differs between ethnic minority boys and girls, and
whether those gender differences are greater in middle school
compared to elementary school respondents.
