Employee Vaccination
Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to MATADORS FORWARD, a new communication series that will provide vital information and updates about the upcoming fall semester. Because our on-campus classes and activities will soon increase, you will receive regular updates like this one, and updates will be posted on our website at MATADORS FORWARD.
As CSUN prepares for a vibrant fall semester, the health and safety of the entire campus community is paramount in our planning. As such, all faculty, staff and student employees who will be working on campus anytime during the Fall 2021 semester will participate in weekly COVID-19 testing. Weekly testing will be at no cost to faculty, staff and student employees and will be conducted during work hours.
We are currently meeting and conferring with our union partners on this testing requirement and will provide you further updates and logistics as we finalize the meet and confer process. In the interim, we want to provide you as much information as possible to assist you in planning.
All campus faculty, staff and student employees will be required to either:
- complete weekly COVID-19 testing within seven days of the start of classes for the fall semester (August 30, 2021) and weekly thereafter, or
- opt out of weekly COVID-19 testing by providing attestation of full vaccination via the campus portal
Additionally, earlier today, the California State University announced that it would not wait for any further action by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and now will require students, faculty and staff who are accessing campus facilities at any university location to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus no later than September 30. The policy is still in the meet and confer stages for represented employees and is mandated for all students and non-represented employees. We will update you once this process is complete and the policy is implemented.
With the rise of the Delta variant, it is important to get your COVID-19 vaccination as soon as possible. Vaccination appointments are free and available through myturn.ca.gov. Please note that it takes four to six weeks to become fully vaccinated. With just weeks remaining until the start of the fall semester, the time to act is now.
While vaccinations remain one of our most effective tools to protect ourselves and our fellow Matadors from COVID-19, students and employees may seek medical and religious exemptions and utilize the weekly testing outlined above.
Please contact COVIDtesting@csun.edu or 818-677-6566 should you have any questions. Auxiliary employees should check with their respective HR departments for details. Continue to visit the MATADORS FORWARD website for the latest guidance and information.
This fall holds tremendous promise for our entire university community, and today’s announcement provides another important tool for us to resume on-campus activities and learning, together. Thank you for all you are doing to move Matadors Forward.
Thank you,
Fall 2021 Tactical Repopulation Team Chairs:
Mary Beth Walker, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
William Watkins, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
