FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT

Dear Campus Community,

The final report from the Cozen O’Connor Institutional Response Group’s assessment and findings of the CSU Title IX and Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation Programs is now available here. Our campus-specific report can be found here.

As you may recall, CSUN participated in this CSU system-wide assessment to learn about our campus community’s experiences and to identify opportunities to transform and strengthen our Title IX and other anti-discrimination programs and policies in alignment with our values and commitment to a culture of care and compliance.

I am deeply grateful to all of the students, faculty and staff who participated in the assessment process and provided the invaluable insights and candid feedback which helped to identify our strengths and areas for improvement and formed the basis of the findings and recommendations.

Of course, the timing of the release of the report is not ideal when so many of our faculty and students are on break for the summer, but the dissemination is only the beginning of the important work that we will engage in to nurture and strengthen a safe and welcoming campus environment. We also expect that the California State Auditor will soon release its own report pertaining to CSU Title IX programs.

I would like to express my gratitude to our campus team formed to lead our response to the report and implementation of the recommendations:

  • Barrett Morris, Assistant Vice President for Equity & Compliance and Title IX Coordinator, Implementation Team Co-Chair
  • Dr. Genevieve Evans Taylor, Chief of Staff, Implementation Team Co-Chair
  • Dr. Michael Neubauer, Faculty President
  • Paige Hajiloo, Associated Students President
  • Hai-Ling Tang, CSUEU President and Staff Representative
  • Alexandra Lohman, Director, Equity and Compliance
  • Kristina de la Vega, Associate Vice President of Human Resources
  • Dr. Diane Guido, Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs
  • Dr. Zeina Otaky-Ramirez, Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Student Conduct and Ethical Development

A campus website has been established to share updates on our process. Your active review is encouraged as an important step in contributing to our successful implementation.

Implementing the recommendations included in the report will take time, a significant infusion of resources and sustained focus. I am confident that working together, we will embrace the change needed to stand firmly in our shared values. Thank you for your partnership in fostering a culture of care, compliance and belonging that facilitates a respectful, equitable and compassionate learning, living and working environment for us all.

Sincerely,

ERIKA D. BECK, PH.D.
