Summertime Grind Challenge: Virtual

It’s time to turn up the heat and get into shape virtually during the Student Recreation Center of the University Student Union’s Summertime Grind Challenge! Have fun and get rewarded while staying on track with your summer fitness goals from the comfort of your own home. Commit to be fit by participating in a variety of virtual fitness activities offered by the SRC and Oasis for at least 3 days a week to earn points for the chance to win awesome prizes! 

Requirements

  1. This challenge is open to the entire CSUN community.
  2. Participants must create an account through the Challenge Runner website or on the Challenge Runner app for iOS or Android using their CSUN email address.
  3. Participants must track completed activities on the Challenge Runner website, app or other third-party fitness tracking services (Apple Health, Fitbit, Garmin, Google Fit, Misfit, Withings, Omron, Polar, Samsung Health, and Strava) in order to be eligible for available prizes.

Challenge Details

Movement Activities: Participants will receive one point each day when they complete at least 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity of any kind, with a maximum of 21 points available in this category throughout the entire challenge. Movement activities are tracked by time (minutes) and can be entered either manually through Challenge Runner’s website, app, or one of the eligible third-party services.

Note: Participants must authorize Challenge Runner to collect data from the third-party service within their account first. 

Bonus Activities: Participants will receive three points per activity per week, with a maximum of 36 points available in this category. Bonus activities are tracked per entry and can only be entered manually through Challenge Runner’s website or app. Check out a list of eligible bonus activities below:

  • Attend a virtual fitness or mindfulness classes with the SRC.
  • Attend virtual meditation, art, or mindfulness workshop with the Oasis.
  • Attend any CSUN virtual event that contributes to physical, mental, or social health and well-being.
  • Complete a workout (30 minutes or more) with friends and family virtually, or with others that live in your household.

Ultimate Bonus Activities: Participants can receive additional points by completing the following activities below. Each activity can only be completed once throughout the entire challenge.

  • Celebrate & Share: Show us how you celebrate the Fourth of July! Take a picture and tag the SRC on social media @csun_src for seven points or email the picture to srcfitprograms@csun.edu for five points.
  • Spread Gratitude: Make a short video (40 seconds or less) about the SRC or Oasis that highlights what you miss and appreciate the most about these centers (e.g., programs, amenities, staff) and earn ten points!

Note: Ultimate bonus activities can only be entered by an SRC administrator with a maximum of  17 points available in this category.

Rankings & Prizes

Rack up points to reach each level in order to be entered into that level's raffle and win some awesome prizes!

  • Level 1: 18 points
    • CSUN/SRC Swag (2 Winners)*
  • Level 2: 36 points
    • $25 Starbucks or Target Gift Card (2 Winners)
  • Level 3: 44 points
    • $75 Amazon Gift Card (1 Winner)
  • Level 4: 54 points
    • Adjustable Dumbbell Set (1 Winner)*

*Items will either be mailed or emailed to selected winners.

Additionally, the participant with the most points at the end of the challenge will receive a $50 Visa Gift Card.

Minimum Participation & Prize Eligibility: All participants who have earned a minimum of 18 points will be entered into a raffle drawing based on the level reached by the end of the challenge. 

Winners will be randomly selected by Wednesday, July 21. The winner must claim their prize by responding to the respective email no later than Tuesday, July 28. If a winner does not claim their prize by the deadline, a new winner will be drawn.

Where do I go to register for the Challenge?

Summertime Grind will be offered through a new platform called Challenge Runner. To register, visit the Summertime Grind Challenge Program Page or download the Challenge Runner app on iOS or Android to enroll in “Summertime Grind 2020” listed under available challenges. You will be prompted to create an account through Challenge Runner.

Note: To be eligible for available prizes, you must register for the challenge using your CSUN email account. 

How do I track my activity in the Challenge?

Challenge Runner offers the option to manually submit activities completed online through the Summertime Grind Challenge Program Page or on the Challenge Runner app. Your activities can also be automatically synced when using one of the following fitness tracker devices/apps: Apple Health, Fitbit, Garmin, Google Fit, Misfit, Withings, Omron, Polar, Samsung Health, and Strava.

Note: Ultimate Bonus Activities, will be entered by SRC Administration once verified. 

How do I sync my activity using my fitness tracker?

To sync your fitness tracker, log into your Challenge Runner account and click the Trackers button. After the User Profile dialog appears, click the Authorize link next to the fitness tracking device you would like to use. Depending on the device selected, an authorization page may be displayed. If prompted, fill in the ID and password for your device. Click the Allow button if it is presented to permit Challenge Runner to collect data from your device.

Note: If you are already logged into the tracker’s website (such as fitbit.com or garmin.com), you may not be presented with a login page and simply be authorized with no further input. The Challenge Runner website will display a message stating “authorization successful.” 

How do I reset my password or remove myself from the challenge?

How do I get credit for completing Ultimate Bonus Activities?

There are two available Ultimate Bonus Activities offered during the challenge. Each activity can only be completed once and points are awarded after verification from SRC Administration. 

Celebrate & Share: Participants will receive credit by uploading a picture on social media and tagging @csun_src or emailing the picture to srcfitprograms@csun.edu

Spread Gratitude: Participants will receive credit upon uploading a video in one of the following ways: 

  1. Email your video as an attachment to  . You should receive a confirmation email from stating: “Your email attachment… was successfully uploaded into the Summertime Grind-Ultimate Bonus Video Clips folder.”
    Note: Video clips MUST be added to the email as an attachment. DO NOT submit the content in the body of the email as it will not be uploaded to Box.
  1. Upload your video directly to the “Summertime Grind-Ultimate Bonus Video Clips” folder on myCSUNbox.
    Note: This step will require you to first log in to your myCSUNbox account using your CSUN credentials. Once logged in, you can either drag the file into the folder or browse your computer and select/upload the file. The size of the file cannot exceed 50MB.
