Advisement: Change of Major

Change of Major or Option

Undergraduates who have earned fewer than 90 units may request a change in major or option online through their myNorthridge and their SOLAR student center. A tutorial on how to make such a request is available at https://www.csun.edu/admissions-records/change-major-minor. Within a few days each request will be reviewed by an advisor and either approved or denied. However, before choosing an option it is critical that you talk to an advisor and learn what’s involved.

Students who have completed 90 or more units may not use the online process; instead they must file paper forms with the aid and approval of an advisor. Before approving such a change, the advisor must verify that the new major or option can be completed without exceeding 140 total units, the university-mandated limit. Only then will an application be forwarded to the Associate Dean of the College for his/her approval or denial.
