Faculty Collective-Carrie Saetermoe

Carrie Saetermoe
Carrie Saetermoe is a professor in the Department of Psychology and Program Coordinator of NIH RIMI (Research Infrastructure in Minority Institutions). She has two lines of research. The first relates to global health equity. This line of research has two components: mental health and physical health disparities and health advocacy. Students who participate in this laboratory will begin by assisting in the analysis of interviews with staff and parents of adolescents with disabilities in Guatemala and will lead to advocacy work with the People’s Health Movement (PHM) in various countries including the U.S. The second line of research relates to Chicana/os in secondary public education. Students who participate in this research will analyze interviews and focus groups with students, parents, and teachers, leading to publication and local education advocacy. Students in both labs will learn qualitative analysis and health advocacy, will present at professional conferences, and will be involved in local and global advocacy work.
