With the improving COVID-19 environment in Los Angeles County, the CSUN IRB is establishing restart guidance for in-person research involving human subjects. The full restart guidance is available on CSUN Box, if you have additional questions please contact IRB staff at irb@csun.edu.
All studies must have an approved IRB modification before restarting in-person research. An IRB Restart Subcommittee will be reviewing restart modifications over the summer of 2021. Modifications for studies requiring full committee review will be considered at the August committee meeting.
It is the responsibility of the study PI to ensure that study activities are compliant with all relevant state and local regulations. This includes Los Angeles County Health Officers Orders, Cal/OSHA requirements and any guidelines issued by CSUN administration and the CSU Chancellor’s Office (including vaccination requirements). Fieldwork conducted out-of-state, or internationally, will need to comply with CSU travel guidelines and any additional regulations local to the field site. Additionally, in-person studies will require additional documents approved by CSUN Environmental Health and Safety, please see the full restart guidance for more information.
Finally, we recognize that state and local COVID safety guidelines may evolve over time both because of improved scientific understanding of the disease and because of the evolution of the virus (variants of concern). Please consult the following websites for current guidelines. The IRB office will make an effort to communicate with faculty researchers any major changes in guidelines, however the responsibility for conducting research procedures safely lies with the investigators.
