Trans* Awareness Week to Celebrate CSUN Trans* Community and Features Author and Activist Janet Mock as Guest Speaker

Northridge — The Pride Center at the University Student Union is inviting all CSUN students, faculty and staff to attend a series of events celebrating Trans* Awareness Week from Monday, Nov. 16 to Thursday, Nov. 19. The week is dedicated to bringing attention to the Trans* community through educating the public and advocating support around the challenges faced on campus and across the nation. Events will include special guest speaker Janet Mock, ground breaking lm screenings, dynamic discussions, engaging events and other interesting speakers from various professions. 

“Trans* Awareness Week is an annual event that welcomes all students, faculty and staff to celebrate the Trans* community at CSUN,” said Sarina Loeb, Pride Center Coordinator, “It helps raise the visibility of the community and addresses key issues faced by these individuals in a safe and inclusive setting on our campus.”

On Tuesday, Nov. 17 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Trans* 101 returns in the Tujunga Room at the USU, followed by Transfeminist Revolt from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and the VarieT* Show from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the Grand Salon at the USU. 

On Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Thousand Oaks room at the USU, join us for Trans*form Domestic Violence, a presentation in collaboration with Project DATE focused on domestic violence in the trans* community. That evening a special movie screening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Pride Center at the USU will feature “Still Black: A Portrait of Black Transmen.” 

Trans* Awareness Week will then wrap up at the USU on Thursday, Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Plaza del Sol with the Trans* Resource Fair, followed by Trans* 101 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Flintridge Room and culminating with the Transgender Remembrance Ceremony from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Thousand Oaks Room at the USU.
