September 6, 2017

Northridge — The Pride Center at the University Student Union (USU) invites all LGBTQ students, faculty, staff and allies to attend “Beyond the Binary”. This year, the annual event is celebrating Bisexuality Visibility Day. On Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., come and experience dynamic keynote speaker, Dr. Tania Israel, Project RISE founder and social justice advocate. Join us in the Flintridge Room located on the second floor of the East Conference Center in the USU, across from the main entrance of the Student Recreation Center. Admission is FREE.

The purpose of Bisexuality Visibility Day is to raise awareness of this specific part of the LGBTQ community, which can be overlooked and judged negatively,” said Pride Center Coordinator, Sarina Loeb. “We are happy to have Tania Israel as our special guest speaker for “Beyond the Binary” and know that this program will be an eye-opening experience for all attendees. You do not want to miss this event!”

Dr. Israel is bi-racial Asian American woman who also identifies as bisexual. She is the founder of Project RISE at UC Santa Barbara, which works to develop interventions to support the psychological health of LGBTQ individuals and communities. She is also a strong advocate for the inclusion of bisexuality and other non-binary identities, individuals and communities.

In addition to hearing Dr. Israel speak, attendees will be able meet with her and celebrate their own sexuality through identity-affirming activities. Light refreshments and snacks will also be served.
