In today’s society, everyone knows that it is important
to know what our rights are and how to protect it. The question is
asked, does everyone have a right to own a gun in the United States?
Guns are weapons that kill people, but since
they are also to protect people, then everyone should have a rite to own
a gun to protect themselves and their family.
Our president, George W. Bush, thinks that there should
be no laws against guns. In a newspaper on the internet it says, “the
Bush administration has issued a 109-page memorandum aiming to prove that
the Second Amendment grants individuals nearly unrestricted access to firearms”
(http://online.wsj.com/public/article//feature). This means that even
our president thinks anyone should have guns. Protected by the Second
Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. It says, "A well-regulated
Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the
people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” (http://www.saf.org/).
This means that it is important that people should be able to have guns,
they have the write to.
Now in days some people think that all guns should
be outlawed. They say that only terrorists have guns. According
to Michael D. Barnes, "This report makes one thing crystal clear: terrorists
and guns go together. Firearms are part of the essential tool kit
of domestic and foreign terrorists alike. Guns are used to commit terrorist
acts, and guns are used by terrorists to resist law enforcement efforts at
apprehension and arrest” (http://www.bradycenter.org/reports).
But guns don’t make terrorists, terrorists make terrorists.
Those who think all guns should be outlawed are wrong
because it is in the Constitution that we should have guns they are important
for us to protect ourselves. Even the U.S. Attorney General of the
United States thinks that gun control is not the American way. They
say, “For the foregoing reasons, we conclude that the Second Amendment secures
an individual right to keep and to bear arms. [O]ur examination of the original
meaning of the Amendment provides extensive reasons to conclude that the
Second Amendment secures an individual right, and no persuasive basis for
either the collective-right or quasi-collective-right views.” (http://nra.org/Article).
This means that each one of us has a right to have a gun, or many guns,
or any kind of gun.
Life is very dangerous in this day and age. We
all need to protect ourselves. That’s why it is important to be able
to buy a gun any time we want to. If everyone had a gun, then there
would be less murders, bank robberies, carjackings, and death.
