We are happy to welcome Michael McAlister, a classically trained French horn player and conductor, as the new maestro of the Osher Lifelong Learning (OLLI) Orchestra, Nevada County’s community orchestra. Originally from our very own Nevada County, Mike graduated from CSU Northridge, earned a Master’s degree in conducting at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and has played professionally in a wide range of venues. Some of these include: the Auburn Symphony, the Burbank Philharmonic, the Baton Rouge Symphony, and the Tar River Orchestra in North Carolina. He has also worked in musical theater as both a conductor and performer. After returning to California in 1997, he taught high school music. Recently retired, Mike has taken up the baton for OLLI Orchestra in Grass Valley.
