Durfee Family Scholarships: The Volunteer Center has awarded five $800 Durfee Family Scholarships to 2017 high school graduates based on their academic endeavors, and their dedication to volunteering and serving their communities. The recipients were Luis Ambriz, North High School, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo; Marcella Castro, Leuzinger High School, Cal State Dominguez Hills; Leilani Ferreras, Academies of Education and Empowerment, UC Santa Barbara; Alejandra Guzman, Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy, Cal State Northridge; and Grace Ngwa, Leuzinger High School, Cal State Chico. The scholarships were established in 1998 under an endowment from the late Ev Durfee, a prior Volunteer Center board member and longtime supporter.
