Choir Auditions-Northridge Singers

Any graduate or undergraduate student voice performance majors who is interested in participating in Northridge Singers (online) for the fall may register for the course as long as the student has had at least one year of college level musicianship. Anyone that fits into this category will not be required to audition for this ensemble this semester.  Freshman and Sophomores should register for MUS172, Junior and Seniors MUS372 and grad students MUS672.
If you are a freshman voice major with some piano skills and/or exposure to music theory, this will suffice. If you are uncertain if you might qualify, please feel free to contact me and I'll help you work through the decision.
The Northridge Singers is our most advance vocal ensemble and there may be need for some students other than voice performance majors to fill out certain sections. Any non-voice performance major who is interested in participating in this ensemble would have to submit a short video audition consisting of the following:
  • 2 scales demonstrating range using solfege.  Scales in 2 different keys.
  • Additional - at least one short vocal work sung with or without accompaniment. You may include a second work if you wish.
It's best if this video is sent via a YouTube link attached to an e-mail. Link should be sent by next Thursday (August 20, 2020) to  Submissions will then be forwarded to Professor Smith.
Northridge Singers, like University Chorus, will be meeting online through the fall. Both instructors are putting together online recording projects and also discussing the possibility of having potential guest lectures from time to time.  No other information is available at this point. It is expected that both groups will meet online at the very first class meeting session time. Students will be sent Zoom links.
