The CSUN Journalism Department has welcomed more than one 100 new first-time freshmen, transfers and graduate students this fall. The new freshmen and transfer students are the first to enroll in Journalism’s newly redesigned curriculum that places an emphasis on its two most popular programs: Broadcast and Public Relations.

Faculty, staff and current students welcomed the new arrivals at a special pre-semester event, hosted in Manzanita Hall. The newest students participated in information sessions about department programs and resources, were treated to a panel discussion and Q-and-A with seniors and soon-to-be graduates and a get-acquainted Kahoot! News quiz for prizes. Winners included Cindy Rodriquez, Matt Alpuerto and Georgia Rios.

The new students also met one-on-one with Journalism faculty and staff and interacted directly with representatives from the five professionally-affiliated department clubs, including CSUN Latino Journalists, National Association of Black Journalists, Society of Professional Journalists as well as the Public Relations Student Society of America and the Radio Television Digital News Association.

Festivities included tours of the student-run news media operations at The Sundial, Valley View/Matador News, KCSN News and the public relations firm, Agency 398.
