On Wednesday, April 18, at 5:00 p.m., CSUN welcomes Qui Nguyen (a writer for Marvel Studios and co-founder of Vampire Cowboys) and Abby Marcus (grant writer and producer/managing director for Vampire Cowboys) for an innovative combination of craft talk and interactive workshop. Vampire Cowboys is an OBIE Award-winning "geek theatre" company that "creates and produces new works of theatre based in action/adventure and dark comedy with a comic book aesthetic." As described on the company's website, the work of Vampire Cowboys "actively pursues the mating of different genres with varied theatrical styles." Their work brings together mass media entertainment and the performing arts, offering provocative live entertainment that comments on popular culture and our relationship to it. Timed to coincide with the announcement of the CSUN English Department's new Minor in Popular Culture (launching in Fall 2018), this special event reaffirms the influence and importance of comics studies and popular culture studies to the University community.
