1. Announcements
The end of the semester is only 3 weeks away, and IT has determined the following Grading and Exam Dates:
· Instructors may begin entering grades Friday, May 1.
· Finals week is Saturday, May 9 – Friday, May 15.
· Students can begin viewing grades on the Portal starting Friday, May 15.
· Grades are due by Friday, May 22.
Jackie Stallcup, the English Department Chair, has requested that all instructors do their best to get grades in by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday May 21. Friday is essentially the start not only of summer, but also of the Memorial Day weekend, and it may be difficult to sort out any last minute problems that might arise.
2. Reminders
English Majors and M.A. students in the Literature Option: if you have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, you may apply for the Dr. Susan Curzon Scholarship Award in the amount of $2,000. You must submit two letters of recommendation. The deadline is May 4, 2015, 9:00 p.m. Apply at: csun.starsscholarshipsonline.com/STARS/Default.aspx.
The deadline for submitting materials for the Spring 2015 Student Awards is today, April 30., by 4:00 p.m. Please submit hardcopies to ST 706. For more information on the awards, see http://www.csun.edu/humanities/english/awards-prizes.
3. Opportunities
Paid Freelance Writer Position. The Discovery House, a residential drug treatment facility in Reseda, is looking for someone to write approximately 40 articles of about 500-750 words each on the subject of drugs, addiction, and treatment. 4. Achievements
Irene Clark gave a talk on April 16 at Soka University titled “Academic Writing and the Issue of Transfer.”
Irene Clark was a keynote speaker on April 24 at the Second Annual Critical Transitions Conference at Woodbury University, “Rhetorical Transfer and Visualization.” Her presentation was titled “Writing Transfer Across Disciplines.”
Stephanie Satie, one of our lectures and alumna, has been awarded CSUN’s Exceptional Creative Accomplishments Award. She will be honored at The Honored Faculty Reception on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. in the USU Grand Salon. Stephanie Satie’s latest solo play, Silent Witnesses, is published as part of Indie Theater Now’s digital theatre library. It can be read digitally at www.indietheaternow.com/play/silent-witnesses. Stephanie performed the play on Wednesday, April 22, at Antelope Valley College.
