Disability Studies presents “Visioning Liberated Futures,” a talk by (and with) Ly Xīnzhèn Zhǎngsūn (Lydia X. Z. Brown)

The new Minor in Disability Studies is pleased to announce our official launch! In celebration, we kick off our first semester with our keynote speaker Ly Xīnzhèn Zhǎngsūn (Lydia X. Z. Brown) (they/them), an attorney, disability rights activist, founder of the Autistic People of Color Fund, Director of Public Policy at the National Disability Institute, and professor of Women’s & Gender Studies (Georgetown) and Critical Race, Gender & Culture Studies (American University).

Ly Xīnzhèn Zhǎngsūn (Ly X. Z. Brown), honored by The White House as a “Champion of Change,” will speak on intersectionality, institutions, policing, and “abolition in the present moment.” Here is a link to their bio.

Attend the Children/YA Library event: Breaking Patterns in Literature for Children and Young Adults

The urgency in education to engage readers at all levels and foster empathy and empowerment in our future citizens and leaders calls for a discussion about the importance of using diverse literature in our classrooms and  providing diverse books in our libraries. Join these four Southern California, own voices authors as they discuss breaking patterns through literature by telling stories from their own neighborhoods. Come listen to the panel featuring the Children/ YA authors Ryane Nicole Granados, Livia Blackburne, Isabel Quintero.
