Former NFL Punter Saxon Leads Group of 10 Inductees for 2018 Pasadena City College Sports Hall of Fame Class

Hidalgo, a forward, played on the two winningest women’s soccer teams in PCC’s intercollegiate history in the sport, dating back to 1998. In 2000 as a freshman, she scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0, SoCal Playoff upset over Santa Ana, the first Lancers win ever in postseason play. The team’s 16 wins remains a school record, matched again in her sophomore year of 2001. She he led the Lancers in scoring with 24 goals and again kicked in the winner in a 2-1 upset playoff over Rio Hondo. Those two wins remain through 2017 as the last two playoff victories in PCC women’s soccer history (the other 1999). Hidalgo finished as the school’s third all-time leading scorer (37 goals, 9 assists) and was named NSCAA All-American. The 2-time, All-South Coast Conference First Teamer went on to lead San Jose State in scoring as a junior in 2002. Rebecca then transferred to Cal State Northridge and in 2004 was an All-Big West 2nd Team selection as she helped the Matadors set a school record for wins (12) while scoring four game-winning goals. Bianca Leonor Quiñones took on the moniker QUIÑ in part because people could never pronounce her last name. At 19, she realized she wanted to do this music thing once and for all. She was enrolled at Cal State Northridge studying psychology when a series of unfortunate teenage events concurred, causing her to withdraw and flee to Berkeley, where her godmother was. This proved to be the sanctuary she needed to heal her broken heart. --LA Weekly

Loma Linda Man Receives Gubernatorial Appointment

From the Office of Governor Edmund G Brown Jr: David A. Kilgore Jr., 40, of Loma Linda, has been appointed director of the California Department of Child Support Services. Kilgore has been director of the Riverside County Department of Child Support Services since 2015 and chief deputy director of the Los Angeles County Department of Child Support Services since 2013, where he was deputy director of operations from 2008 to 2013. He was deputy director of operations at the San Bernardino County Department of Child Support Services from 2006 to 2008 and held several positions at the Tulare County Department of Child Support Services from 2002 to 2006, including program manager and staff services analyst. He earned a Master of Public Administration degree from California State University, Northridge. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $199,855. Kilgore is a Republican. --Patch.com

On the club circuit, Carey plays with East Bay Volleyball Academy in Livermore, California. It was his fourth year with the club, as he played with the 18-1 team. He was coached by a star-studded cast of former BYU player Steve Hieta – who actually played there with Concordia’s coach, Shawn Patchel – former CSUN player Gary Reznick and his father who played at Michigan State, Sean Carey. --Volley Mob

Cameron O'Connor to open Corvallis Guitar Festival

O'Connor said it was difficult to decide between the two styles as an undergrad at California State University Northridge. Both the jazz and classical guitar programs were considered among the strongest in the nation. In the end, he thought classical was a better fit. --Lebanon Express
