The following demonstration provides an example of an Aural Figure-Ground Task in which the ground carries a high annoyance impact. Because of this, its capacity to draw your focus away from the lecture (figure) is considerable. This is how it is for a person with an auditory attention disorders. They seem compelled to listen to the background noises or simply give up listening at all. Notice that you have to strain to listen to the speaker, and it's easier to just ignore the whole thing, which is ok here but not if your in a real lecture hall.
