Dr. Efrat, the Bookstein Chair in Taxation, is an alumnus of the David Nazarian College of Business & Economics at California State University, Northridge where he graduated with an Accounting degree Magna Cum Laude in 1989. After becoming a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Illinois in 1989, Dr. Efrat obtained his law degree from the University of Southern California. He then practiced law for five years as an in-house counsel to a Los Angeles based financial institution. Dr. Efrat then became a Fellow for one year at Stanford University’s interdisciplinary program in international law. He subsequently obtained a masters in law degree (J.S.M.) and a doctor of science of law degree (J.S.D.) from Stanford Law School. Dr. Efrat joined California State University, Northridge in the fall of 1999. He received the university's Preeminent Scholarly Publication Award in 2004, Extraordinary Service Award in 2008, the Community Engagement Visionary Award in 2010, the Distinguished Teaching Award in 2013, the University Research Fellow in 2013, the Professor of the Year Award in the Accounting Program in 2009, the Outstanding Educator Award by the California Society of CPAs in 2014, Outstanding Faculty Award, California State University, Northridge in 2015, and the Outstanding Professor of the Year, MS Taxation Program in 2015. Dr. Efrat currently serves as the Director of the Bookstein Institute for Higher Education in Taxation and the two graduate programs in taxation and accounting at CSUN.
