BSG Grading
BUS 497A, Fall 2009
Rex C. Mitchell, Ph.D.
As given in the syllabus, the BSG simulation comprises 24% of the class grade. An
individual's BSG grade is the grade given to the team, possibly modified by the confidential
group members' evaluations regarding the individual's contributions to the team effort
(significantly more or less than the team average will be important); the evaluations will be done
at the end of the BSG work. These confidential evaluations are intended to ensure that all team
members "pull their weight" during the work. The team grade will be determined as follows
(where the percentage is the percentage of the course grade attached to that item, e.g., the first
factor gets 8% of the course grade, which is 8/24 of the total 24% for the BSG):
- 8% for the average of the Overall Investor Confidence Average and the Game-to-Date
Performance Rankings as printed out in the final Footware Industry Report (see p.30ff of the
Player's Manual for details on how these scores are computed) The weights assigned to the five
measures that produce these two scores are:
- EPS: 30%
- ROE score: 20%
- Credit rating: 20%
- Stock price: 15%
- Image rating: 15%
- 6% for the 3-year Strategic Plan (see that module for requirements) and for
good performance relative to the targets set in your Plan
- 4% for favorable trends in the Company Performance Scores during the latter years of the
simulation and/or for special aspects of the company's performance (e.g., a good recovery from a
disastrous mistake, having a fairly high relative Performance Score even though in last place
among the companies, leaving the company at the end in good shape for the next management
team)
- 6% for the team's final debriefing presentation and report (see that module for requirements)
