The Holy Door, Christ with arms outstretched in the clouds above.

The Porta Santa is the door between the Portico and Narthex of the Basilica of St. Peter, at the far right (north) of the central portal. It is normally closed (walled up, in earlier centuries), but is opened on the occasion of a Jubilee or Holy Year. There are similar Holy Doors at the other pilgrimage churches, S. Giovanni Laterano, S. Paolo fuori le Mure, and S. Maria Maggiore. .
