System & Service Monitoring

Monitoring systems in an enterprise Data Center requires the use of system tools to automate the process. To insure the availability and accessibility of systems and services several components of a server must be monitored. Basic services include connectivity, CPU loads, disk capacity, procedures and executing services. Access to daemons such as https and SSH must be monitored to insure public access to the server. The Data Center Manager is responsible for evaluating and implementing tools for Operation Specialists to use to maintain the applications deployed in the facility.

Big Brother

Big Brother is a monitoring solution produced by Quest Software that is free for non-commercial use and for non-profit organizations. There is also a professional edition available for a 30-day trial. This application can provide up to the minute updates for services installed on all servers deployed in the Data Center.
