The Central American Studies Program (CAS) at CSUN is an interdisciplinary minor program in the Humanities which aims to serve this dynamic and growing community, while at the same time building a new academic discipline. The first of its kind in the United States, the CAS Program sees Central Americans not so much as a regionally-defined polity, but, rather, as a transnational space. The program explores the fluid relationships between and among Central Americans. CAS believes that the best way to meet the global challenge is to build a knowledge and skills base to help students link local realities with regional and global opportunities and problems.
The research, publications,
courses, conferences and other components of the CAS Program are valuable
to students, researchers, and other people of all backgrounds and disciplines.
From those students seeking to understand their heritage, to those who
plan to work in Los Angeles and other cities across the United States,
the CAS Program provides academic tools to deal with the global challenge
facing communities, schools, businesses, governments, and other institutions.
CAS courses place
a primary emphasis on helping students build the skills they need to be
successful both in college and in their careers.
