CSUN Honors Six Graduates with Special Recognition

Of the more than 11,700 Matadors eligible to graduate from CSUN in May, six individuals were singled out for special recognition as outstanding graduating students. This year’s Wolfson Scholar, the highest honor awarded to a graduating senior, was Omar Ullah of Palmdale, who wants to become a primary care physician for traditionally underserved members of his community.

As It Elects a New Chair, CSUN Foundation Board Reflects on America’s Long Fight for Justice

The CSUN Foundation, the nonprofit responsible for accepting and managing university-related philanthropic funds, announced the election of a new board chair and directors. Philanthropic support of CSUN totaled more than $70 million during the term of outgoing chair Robert Myman ’67 (Political Science), left. The new chair is Robert D. Taylor ’82 (Engineering), right, a private equity investor and management consultant whose work has focused on increasing economic opportunity and racial justice in Los Angeles and nationally.

Invitation to Share Comments with the Oviatt Library Name Working Group, 10 a.m.-noon, June 24

Last fall, President Dianne F. Harrison commissioned a working group to review the question of whether the University Library should continue to carry the name of former Interim President Delmar T. Oviatt. Questions about Oviatt’s past arose in spring 2019 when a group of students expressed their belief that Oviatt was a “racist and oppressive figure” who was “…a persistent opponent to the creation and existence of cultural studies during the period of his tenure as President.” The working group is now comparing Oviatt’s attitudes and actions against our current vision, values and mission. Members of the CSUN community are invited to share their information, thoughts and opinions on the matter during a Zoom meeting of the working group on June 24, from 10 a.m. to noon.
