Erika D. Beck, CSUN’s newest president, is spending her first 100 days in office on a listening tour — meeting with students, faculty, staff, alumni and community leaders — in an effort to understand the opportunities, and challenges, the campus faces.
CSUN will celebrate Black History Month with numerous events that highlight the accomplishments and contributions of the Black community. The theme is “Celebrating Black Excellence: Resiliency and Creativity in the Digital Space.” On Feb. 26, renowned intellectual Cornel West of Harvard University will join the CSUN community for a virtual event.
Alumnus and notary pioneer Milt Valera and his wife, Debbie, recently committed more than $11 million for programs across the campus, including an endowment and scholarship for the EOP Valera Resilient Scholars Program, which provides a safety net for college students who grew up in the foster care system.
The CSUN Division of Academic Affairs has named Matthew Cahn as vice provost. Since 2018, Cahn served as interim vice provost, where he managed and oversaw various administrative protocols and daily operations of the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs.
CSUN marketing professor Kristen Walker, an expert on technology and data privacy who teaches in CSUN’s David Nazarian College of Business and Economics, said being forced to work and attend school in a virtual environment has “opened a Pandora’s Box” that will change our approach to the use of technology and raises concerns about data privacy and information sharing.
