FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT

October 26, 2022

Dear CSUN Community,

It is with great enthusiasm that I share that Dr. Meera Komarraju has been appointed Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs effective January 1. Dr. Komarraju brings more than three decades of experience in higher education, including as a Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dean, Associate Dean, and Department Chair, in addition to her research and scholarship in psychology.

In her current role as Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Dr. Komarraju has served as chief advocate and champion for student success. A hallmark of her work on campus through significant transition has been authentic and inclusive collaboration and communication that has advanced academic excellence, new interdisciplinary academic programs, equitable access, retention and degree completion. Her leadership helped the campus stabilize sharp student enrollment declines, increase retention rates and facilitate student success. In addition, she has successfully led efforts for campus reaccreditation, several program accreditations and facilitated international MOUs.

Dr. Komarraju has a bachelor’s degree in psychology, philosophy and English literature from Nizam College in India; a master’s degree in psychology and a master of philosophy in industrial-organizational psychology from Osmania University in India; and doctorates in industrial-organizational psychology from Osmania University and applied social psychology from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. As an applied psychologist, Dr. Komarraju’s research interests focus on student motivation and performance, diversity and leadership, as well as work attitudes and work-family linkages in dual-career couples.

I would like to extend my thanks to the search committee members for their dedication and service, and for bringing an exceedingly talented and diverse group of finalists forward for consideration by the entire campus. I recognize the time and energy required to facilitate a national search and am deeply appreciative of their efforts. The members included Faculty President Dr. Michael Neubauer, Librarian Lindsay Hansen Brown, Dr. Marquita Gammage, Dr. Gabriela Chavira, CECS Dean Houssam Toutanji, Associated Students President Shayan Moshtael and Vice President Colin Donahue. I am also grateful to those that took the time to attend the campus forums and provide their feedback about the candidates.

Dr. Komarraju is a highly experienced and exceptionally skilled academic leader and I am confident her leadership will facilitate a brighter and more equitable future for our entire campus community. Please help me in welcoming Dr. Komarraju to the CSUN community.

Sincerely,

ERIKA D. BECK, PH.D.
