President Harrison Kicks Off Academic Year with Clear Focus on Student Success

CSUN Connects is a new project, which aims to unite CSUN faculty, staff and students through statements posted by faculty and staff in places such as syllabi or email signatures. Examples include: “I am a first-generation college student,” “I started at community college” and “English is not my first language.”

Women’s Volleyball: Pepperdine-CSUN Challenge

Aug. 31-Sept. 2
The Matadors open their home schedule by co-hosting a tournament with Pepperdine. CSUN hosts Weber State at 7 p.m. on Aug. 31, Pepperdine at 7 p.m. on Sept. 1 and Northeastern at 1 p.m. on Sept. 2. Northeastern and Weber State will also play a tournament match in The Matadome on Sept. 1.

Free Music, Food and Fun: President’s Picnic, Aug. 30

More than 8,000 students are expected to attend the back-to-school festivities of the annual President’s Picnic on the Bayramian Hall Lawn (off of Cleary Walk). To accommodate everyone’s schedule, activities will take place at two times, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5:30-7 p.m.

The University Student Union invites all CSUN students with a talent they want to share to take the stage and audition for the 16th Annual “Student Showcase.” It doesn’t matter whether you’re a singer, dancer, poet or juggler — this is your opportunity to show off your skills for the chance to win cash prizes of up to $500 for first place. Online registration closes 5 p.m. Sept. 6.

Associated Students Summer Movie Fest: Doctor Strange, Thur, Aug. 31

Your last chance to see a movie on the Oviatt Lawn for this year’s AS Summer Movie Fest series. At 7:30 p.m., you can see Marvel’s Doctor Strange, about a former neurosurgeon who embarks on a journey of healing only to be drawn into the world of the mystic arts.
