As of January 26, 2022, the Student Recreation Center has been serving the CSUN community for 10 years and we’re excited to mark this momentous milestone with SRC@10. Join us during this special celebration, where we’ll shine a spotlight on each SRC department and highlight our continued commitment to lifelong health and wellness for all Matadors.

SRC@10 Celebration

Wednesday, Feb. 23
10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Student Recreation Center

Come join us to learn about the various departments and programs offered through the SRC & Oasis Wellness Center. We will be raffling off a $50 gift card at the top of every hour when you visit a booth. Winners do not need to be present at the time of the announcement and are only eligible for one gift card during the event.

  • Facilities/Membership: 10 – 11 a.m.
  • Sport Clubs/Outdoor Adventures/Rock Wall: 11 a.m. - Noon
  • Oasis/Aquatics: Noon – 1 p.m.
  • Group Exercise/ Fitness/Ops: 1 – 2 p.m.
  • Boxing/Personal Training: 2 – 3 p.m.
  • Intramural Sports/Games Room/Sunny Days Camp: 3 – 4 p.m.

Participate in these select programs and be entered to win a $50 gift card each week. Plus, have the chance to win a $250 gift card when you attend at least 5 of these programs during the semester! Winners will be contacted no later than May 27.

  • Students passed a referendum to build a recreation center at CSUN

2009

  • Construction broke ground
  • Given the Design Excellence award from the American Institute of Architects, San Fernando Valley Chapter

2011

  • Construction project was completed

2012

  • Facility opened to the CSUN community
  • Facility achieved LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold status from the U.S. Green Building Council
  • Given the Design Excellence award from the American Institute of Architects, San Fernando Chapter
  • Given the Facility of Merit award by Athletic Business
  • Hosted special master classes with Richard Simmons and Michael Blanks
  • Sunny Days Camp began using the SRC for summer programming

2013

  • Given the Outstanding Sports Facility award by the National Intramural and Sports Association (NIRSA)
  • Hosted first fitness challenge, I Work Out, with over 500 registered participants
  • The SRC Turf Field opened to all members

2014

  • The SRC launched a new online booking software powered by MINDBODY for group exercise and personal training programs
  • The Zumbathon event raised $2,458 towards the Susan G. Komen® foundation for breast cancer
  • Given the Award of Excellence from Los Angeles Business Council for outstanding architecture and design that significantly enhances the Los Angeles community’s urban environment
  • Given the Merit Award for Excellence in Architecture for a New Building from The Society for College and University Planning and the American Institute of Architects’ Committee on Architecture for Education

2015

  • Upgraded over 300 pieces of cardio equipment
  • Renovated the existing University Student Union recreation/wellness spaces and opened the Oasis Wellness Center

2017

  • Renovated the Top Level Training Zone to serve students’ need for a functional open training space
  • Upgraded over 50 pieces of strength accessories and plate-loaded equipment
  • Added a booth at the SRC Turf Field for access control and equipment checkout
  • Partnered with the CSUN Office of Institutional Research to conduct research on the association between exercise and persistence toward graduation

2018

  • Upgraded over 180 pieces of cardio and selectorized strength equipment
  • Renovated the underutilized Matty's Kids Club into the new Intramural Sports office

2019

  • SRC management began oversight of the USU Games Room

2020

  • Converted in-person programs to virtual in response to the COVID-19 pandemic

2021

  • The SRC reopened its doors after 15 months of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Updated entrance turnstiles and launched the SRC mobile app
  • Updated locker room benches and flooring
  • Opened an esports space in the USU Games Room in collaboration with Associated Students and the CSUN Esports Club
