The Honors program has much to offer CSUN English majors. Honors students gain in-depth knowledge through a concentration on cutting-edge literary fields and critical theory in honors tutorials. The number of students in the honors option is intentionally kept to manageable proportions, and as a result, honors students often form a close, supportive community of like-minded individuals within the larger framework of the English major. Highlights of the option include opportunities for social engagement, cultural excursions, and participation in academic conferences or colloquia. A substantial number of students in the honors option plan to attend graduate or professional school. Other students, however, simply welcome the enhanced learning environment, with its small classes (carefully designed "tutorials" that operate on the principles of the graduate seminar but are geared toward promising undergraduates), select faculty, and other intellectually-engaged students.
