Reminder: State Controller's Office Discontinued Printed Pay Advice Statements | Enroll in CA Employee Connect

Printing of Direct Deposit Advices Discontinued

Effective July 10, 2020 the State Controller's Office (SCO) has permanently discontinued the printing of direct deposit advices for all pay cycles. The SCO will continue to print live warrants, which will be distributed in accordance with campus processes established during virtual operations. CSU employees are encouraged to enroll in California Employee Connect in order to gain online access to pay, direct deposit and W-2 information.  Read more below.

Enroll in California Employee Connect

As a California State University (CSU) employee, your pay check/direct deposit advice and annual W-2 are issued (hard copy) by the State Controller’s Office (SCO).  Until now, these hard copy documents have been the only means made available to you by the SCO as a record of your earnings.

CSUN employees now have the opportunity to access this information and forms through Cal Employee Connect (CEC) which allows employees to view up to three (3) years of their earnings statements and W-2’s, along with personal information.  Cal Employee Connect will ultimately reduce state costs and workload by providing a tool for all state employees to access their earnings information electronically.

The statements available in CEC provide continuity to the statements previously printed by the SCO. CEC offers a range of tools to help you view your earnings, including a feature to compare statements side-by-side.

To learn more about CEC and how to view pay warrant and W-2 information, visit Cal Employee Connect.

Learn about the Employee Early Exit Program

As part of its efforts to manage budget reductions, California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is implementing an employee EARLY EXIT PROGRAM (“EEP”), to provide employees who choose to voluntarily separate on or before December 31, 2020 with a financial severance package. This is a one-time, non-precedent setting program. Participation in the EEP will also require the execution of irrevocable separation agreements, which will include a standard general release of claims.

As this is currently a proposed program, we are in the process of meet and confer with all bargaining units.  Once this process is complete, we will share updated information and open the application period.  We anticipate having the application period run from the last week of September through the first week of October.

You can read President Harrison's August 24th announcement of the Employee Early Exit Program here.

You can access and view detailed information including the preliminary Early Exit Program Terms and Conditions, Application, and Separation Agreement and Release forms from the Human Resources webpage, or directly here.

COVID-19 Related Leaves for Employees

There are currently three leave options available for employees: COVID Paid Administrative Leave (CPAL), Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSLA), and Emergency Family and Medical Leave Expansion (EFMLEA).

Due to the distinct options available, for any time off related to COVID-19 managers and employees should reach out to Karyn Cote, Leave Specialist at Karyn.Cote@csun.edu to consult on which leave type they qualify for and to obtain the appropriate leave form. To read more information about the leave options available to employees for COVID-19 related reasons and other resources, visit the COVID-19 Information for Faculty/Staff page.

Be Prepared | Complete CSUN Employee Returning to Campus Training Before Coming to Campus

As we continue to manage through the COVID-19 pandemic, those who are approved to return to campus, and those who are already on site, will notice a number of measures that have been put in place to minimize the spread of infection and keep our workplaces safer for you and your colleagues.

You should have received an email notice, that prior to returning to campus to work, CSUN faculty, staff, and student employees are required to complete an online course called “Returning to Campus Guide for Employees.” You can directly access the training hosted in CSU Learn, the Campus Learning Management System, by logging into the CSUN Portal here

The 23-minute online course provides information on CSUN’s COVID-19 guidelines and shared responsibilities, as well as strategies for limiting the spread of the disease.  Human Resources will assist department heads who are responsible for tracking the training completion for their workgroups.

Please note:

  • Employees who are already working on campus should complete the training ASAP.
  • For employees returning to campus for work during Fall 2020, the course must be completed before you return to campus.
  • All remaining employees must complete the training before returning to campus or by December 31, whichever occurs first.

A safe work environment is only possible when everyone participates; therefore, some of these actions will require your active engagement. Because of the “connectedness” nature of our work and the volatility of the pandemic, we must share the responsibility of protecting ourselves and each other.

Remember, if you are approved to come to campus by your supervisor:

  • Prior to reporting to work, and on a daily basis if scheduled, submit an Employee Screening Survey via the CSUN app; based on your result, you will receive an immediate message and email stating you are cleared to report to work or to stay home with further instructions; if cleared for work, share the email with your administrator.
  • Wear face coverings at all times; The face covering may be removed in a private office or cubicle with 6-foot distancing.
  • Maintain 6-feet social distancing.
  • Adhere to hand washing and work-space hygiene requirements.
  • For more information on health & safety, visit: https://www.csun.edu/csunasone/health-and-safety

For questions or issues with accessing the training, email CSU-Learn @csun.edu.
