Managing Conflict in the Work Environment - Supervisors & MPPs | March 14

Whether you are addressing the concerns of one employee, or the dynamics of your team, managing conflict effectively requires thoughtful communication skills and an open communication environment that encourages employees to seek the root cause of the issue(s). Conflict is natural and if handled quickly and professionally, can result with growth and better working relations. In this session, we will discuss skills such as deep listening, asking good questions, conflict tendencies, perspective taking, and positive solutions.

In this session reserved for managers, supervisors, department chairs, directors, and MPP’s, we’ll discuss creating and fostering a healthy environment, and discuss case scenarios in a higher education environment.

Student Success: Preparing Your Teen for Life After High School | March 15

    • Learn strategies on how to respond to your Millennials and Generation Z. 
    • Walk away with a sense of providing guidance for the Millennial to prepare them for life after high school.

Living in Earthquake Country: Preparing for the Big One | March 21

Presented By: Jenny Novak, Emergency Preparedness Manager

This earthquake specific course will focus on what to do before, during, and after an earthquake to ensure that you are ready. The course will enhance participant awareness of earthquake hazards by providing a basic scientific background and discussion of the effects of recent and historical earthquakes. Living in Southern California, it’s not a matter of if an earthquake will occur, but when. Will you be ready?

Matador Faculty and Staff Appreciation Series- Beach Volleyball vs. Pepperdine | March 23

The Spring 2017 Faculty & Staff Series includes six home events on campus. For attending four of the six designated games, participants will receive a #CSUNderArmour hoodie. CSUN Faculty and Staff members will receive free admission to each game and are invited to bring up to three guests.

All CSUN Faculty and Staff members are eligible to participate by checking in at each game using their CSUN ID. The Athletics Department will have a separate check-in area for participants at each venue in order to track attendance. Premium giveaway items will also be made available for each game, as applicable, at the Faculty & Staff Series check-in table.

Tsunami Awareness for Southern California Residents | March 23

We've all heard of the devastation caused by tsunamis that have occured in Japan, Chile, and the Indian Ocean-but what is the risk for Southern California? Many of us enjoy recreation on our beautiful Southern California beaches and coastal attractions, what do you need to know to stay safe in the event of a tsunami? There are many questions and misconceptions about tsunami hazards, this course will explain the different types of tsunamis and how they are triggered, warning systems, and how to identify tsunami hazard zones.

We will go over best practices for emergency kits, essential contents, maintenance plans, and more on any budget! Recommended items for kits in cars, offices, for individuals and families will be discussed.

MMC Creative Cooking and Wellness Series | March 29

We will be discussing DIET is a four-letter word – focus on lifestyle change, not temporary diet; no need for counting – focus on what to eat, not numbers; no need for restriction – allow for moderation in all kinds of food; and lose the labels – Food is just food, not “good”, “bad”, “clean”, “junk”.

Respect in the Workplace | March 29

Creating Family Emergency Plans | March 30

Presented by: Jenny Novak, Emergency Preparedness Manager

In this workshop style course, participants will develop family emergency plans. We will use a flexible template that can be easily adapted to your unique living situation.  At the end of the course, you will have a plan ready to take home to your family for discussion and practice! Some information about neighborhood-level emergency preparedness will also be provided.

Smoking Cessation - Now is the Time | March 30

We are now a smoke free campus. Kicking the habit is difficult for some people . The University wants to help. Come to this session to learn about resources available to help you stop smoking and to discuss the process of smoking cessation.
